Percy the Penguin was a mischievous bird who loved to cause trouble at the zoo. He would steal food from other animals, splash water on the visitors, and make fun of the zookeepers. He always wore a fedora hat that made him feel very stylish and cool but easy to spot.
One day, the zoo director had enough of Percy's antics and decided to send him away to another zoo. He chose the Lanzhou Zoo in Gansu, China, where he hoped Percy would learn some manners and respect. He packed Percy in a crate and shipped him off to his new home.
Percy was not happy about this. He hated being in a crate and he hated the idea of leaving his old zoo. He wondered what kind of animals he would meet in China and if they would like him or not.
When he arrived at the Lanzhou Zoo, he was greeted by a friendly panda named Ping. Ping welcomed Percy to the zoo and showed him around. He introduced him to the other animals, such as the monkeys, the elephants, the giraffes, and the lions. Percy was amazed by the diversity and beauty of the zoo, but he also felt a bit out of place. He missed his old friends and his fedora hat.
He decided to make the best of his situation and try to fit in. He was polite and friendly to the other animals, but he also kept his eye out for any opportunity to escape. He wanted to see more of China and maybe find his way back to his old zoo.
One day, he overheard some visitors talking about a special exhibit on dragons. They said that there was a legend about a dragon that lived in the Tiger Leaping Gorge, a deep canyon in the Yunnan province. They said that the dragon was very powerful and mysterious, and that only a few people had ever seen it.
Percy was intrigued by this. He had always wanted to meet a dragon, ever since he read a book about them in the zoo library. He wondered what they looked like, how they breathed fire, and if they could fly. He decided to go on a quest to find the dragon and maybe make friends with it.
He waited until nightfall, when the zoo was closed, and the guards were asleep. He sneaked out of his enclosure and made his way to the exit. He found a truck that was parked outside the zoo and climbed into the back. He hoped that the truck would take him to the Tiger Leaping Gorge, or at least somewhere close to it.
The next morning, he woke up to find himself in a different city. He looked out of the window and saw a sign that said "Kunming". He realized that he was in the capital of Yunnan, and that he was closer to his destination. He jumped out of the truck and started to walk along the road. He asked some people for directions, but they either ignored him or laughed at him. He didn't mind. He was used to being different and he enjoyed the adventure.
He walked for many days, crossing mountains, rivers, and forests. He saw many amazing sights and met many interesting creatures. He also faced many dangers and challenges, such as hungry wolves, angry farmers, and busy highways. He was brave and clever, and he always managed to escape or overcome them.
Finally, he reached the Tiger Leaping Gorge. He was awed by the sight of the deep and narrow canyon, where the Jinsha River roared and rushed. He looked for a way to get down to the bottom of the gorge, where he hoped to find the dragon. He found a trail that led him to a bridge that spanned the river. He crossed the bridge and entered the gorge.
He walked along the river, looking for any signs of the dragon. He saw some caves and cliffs that looked like possible hiding places, but he didn't see any smoke or scales. He wondered if the dragon was real or just a myth.
He was about to give up when he heard a loud roar that echoed through the gorge. He turned around and saw a huge dragon flying towards him. The dragon was red and gold, with horns, spikes, and wings. It had a long snout, sharp teeth, and glowing eyes. It breathed fire and smoke, and it looked very angry.
Percy was terrified, but he also felt a surge of excitement. He had finally found the dragon, and it was more magnificent than he had imagined. He wanted to talk to it and maybe befriend it, but he didn't know how. He decided to try to communicate with it using gestures and sounds.
He waved his flippers and said "Hello, I'm Percy. I'm a penguin from the Lanzhou Zoo. I came here to meet you and see if you want to be friends."
The dragon stopped in mid-air and looked at Percy with curiosity. It tilted its head and said "Who are you? What are you? Why are you here?"
Percy repeated his introduction and added "I'm sorry if I disturbed you. I don't mean any harm. I'm just curious about you and your kind. You are very beautiful and powerful, and I admire you."
The dragon smiled and said "Thank you for your compliment. You are very brave and polite, and I respect you. I am Da Da Chew, the guardian of the Tiger Leaping Gorge. I am the last of my group that guards this area and I live here alone."
Percy blushed and said "Oh, it must get lonely at times. Thank you for not eating me. You are very nice and friendly, and you make me feel welcome. You are more like a penguin than a dragon."
The dragon laughed and said "You are very funny and charming, and you make me happy. You are the first creature that I have met in a long time that I like. You are my friend."
Percy smiled and said, "You are my friend too."
They hugged and became friends.
They spent the next few days together, talking, playing, and flying. They learned a lot from each other and enjoyed each other's company.
They also met two other dragons that lived in the gorge, but they were not as nice as Da Da Chew. They were green and blue, with scales, wings, and tails. They were smaller and weaker than Da Da Chew, but they were also more arrogant and rude. They made fun of Percy and his fedora hat, which he had found in a shop along the way. They called him names and tried to bully him.
Percy was hurt and angry, but he didn't let them get to him. He ignored them and focused on his friendship with Da Da Chew. Da Da Chew defended him and told them to leave him alone. He said that Percy was his friend and that he was better than them. He said that Percy was brave, polite, curious, wise, kind, funny, and charming, and that he had a great sense of style. He said that they were cowardly, rude, boring, foolish, mean, dull, and ugly, and that they had no taste.
The other dragons were jealous and angry, but they didn't dare to fight Da Da Chew. They knew that he was stronger and smarter than them, and that he could beat them easily. They decided to leave Percy and Da Da Chew alone, and they flew away.
Percy thanked Da Da Chew for standing up for him and said that he was a true friend. Da Da Chew said that he was happy to help him and that he was glad to have him as a friend. They hugged and continued to have fun.
They had a wonderful time together, but they also knew that it couldn't last forever. Percy had to go back to the zoo, and Da Da Chew had to stay in the gorge. They didn't want to say goodbye, but they also didn't want to cause any trouble. They decided to part ways, but they promised to keep in touch and visit each other whenever they could.
They exchanged gifts and hugs, and they said farewell. Percy gave Da Da Chew his fedora hat, which he said was a symbol of their friendship. Da Da Chew gave Percy a scale, which he said was a token of his trust. They told each other to take care and be happy, and they said that they would never forget each other.
They flew away in opposite directions, but they looked back and waved at each other. They felt sad, but they also felt grateful. They had found a friend in an unlikely place, and they had shared a unique and unforgettable experience. They had learned a lot from each other and grown as individuals. They had made each other's lives richer and happier.
They smiled and flew on, knowing that they would always be friends, no matter how far apart they were.
